de Ridder book launch for children's charity
On the auspicious day of Bengali New Year (15 April, 2006, Saturday) all members & well wishers of East Bengal Club had gathered at the clubs Maidan tent & adjacent lawn. Before coach Philippe de Ridder took his entry to the club, the traditional goal post Puja was performed by the pundits amidst much cheer and joy of the club supporters and members as well as club officials. Mike Okoro was seen sitting on the ground besides the goalpost when the pujas were being performed. The goal post was fully covered and decorated with marigold flowers-in true depiction of our club colors. Sweets were distributed among all club members. At about 10am Ridder took his entry for inaugaration of his book "KOLKATA".
Two books in fact were brought out - one small book of 64 pages costing Rs.85 only and another Big book of 128 pages costing Rs.485 only.
The two books were more like photo albums containing many photos of players in different moods, many scenes of our city Kolkata, training sessions, de Ridder in different moods and so on. Many important sayings of great and famous people were written throughout the books.
It was a total pictorial experience when you go through the Book.
De Ridder came and gave a short speech for the members and press people present for the occasion. All persons who purchased the books went to him one by one and he autographed every copy with a big smile and shook hands with all, young children and old alike.
I purchased the big book and he signed it, shook hands and I told him this time the NFL Cup must come to our club by your effort and coaching.
All the sale proceeds would be donated towards Children's Charity in Kolkata. The Bengali New Year indeed began on a very happy note with this very good effort of de Ridder.
