3rd "Coca Cola" National Football League 1998/99:
from 05.January upto 22.March 1999 all over the country

The late refurbished format had 12 teams divided into 2 Groups. For the first time JCT Mills was allowed to play its home matches in Ludhiana, a positive step, as in the first 2 seasons they had to play in Delhi. This time Delhi only had the honour of hosting the inaugural match JCT-Mohun Bagan. At the half-way stage newcomers Tollygunge lead in Group A while title favourites East Bengal lead in Group B. At the end, Mohun Bagan, JCT Mills and Churchill Brothers qualified from Group A. Churchill Bros qualified just by the virtue of their superior goal difference over debutants Tollygunge Agragami, who were very unlucky not to qualify. East Bengal was the overall first team to qualify for the Super League, with young FC Kochin and Salgaocar following from Group B. Air India and Indian Bank were relegated to the 2nd Division, while the winner and runners-up of the 2nd Division are automatically promoted to the elite division. The Super League is being played as a double-tier round robin league in Goa and Calcutta. After the Goa-leg of the Super League, Goa´s Salgaocar and Churchill Bros lead the Six Team League. In the end Salgaocar Sports Club from Goa won the 3rd National League, their first National League title, with the last match still to be played, which they also won. Runners-up again East Bengal with Churchill Brothers, actually relegated last season, third.
