The Gurdarshan Memorial Football Tournament is held at the Ripudaman College Ground, Nabha.
On Sardar Gurdarshan Singh: An illustrious son of Punjab, was born on August 22, 1933. His father Dewan Gurbachan Singh was the son of S Sewa Singh, the Prime Minister of erstwhile Nabha State. Gurdarshan Singh acquired his education at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla; Coloria Talukdar College, Lucknow; Chief College, Lahore; Govt Ripudaman College, Nabha; Govt College, Ludhiana and Law College, Delhi. He married with Satinder Kaur, who is Vice President of PPCC (I) and Member of AICC. He left behind him, his wife four children (3 sons and 1 daughter) who are very well settled. His son Kaka Randeep Singh is present MLA from Nabha ( WHO IS PRESENTLY PRESIDENT OF THIS AUSPICIOUS TOURNAMENT).
Gurdarshan Singh was lover of Sports and a first rate sportsman of Bishop Cotton School Shimla in 1950. He was captain of athletics team of Govt College, Ludhiana and remained member of Punjab University Athletics team. He remained member of Punjab Sports Council, Member of PEPSU Rifle Association, President Volleyball Association and President Patiala District Kabaddi Association. During his life he started various welfare works such as construction of Dharamshalas, Panchayat Ghars, Dispensaries, network of roads and bridges and buildings in Nabha constituency. He was also a widely travelled politician. He visited various part of World i.e. Iran, Italy, France, West Germany, Ceylon, England, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, etc.
Gurdarshan Singh remained a teetotaller throughout his life and lead a very pious clean spotless personal and political life. He was quoted as a symbol of honesty, integrity and purity in political circles not only in Punjab but throughout India. In the year 1976, Gurdarshan Singh started this auspicious tournament being its President.
This noble soul left for his heavenly abode on 15th July, 1988 by leaving a very rich legacy behind.
